Immigrant rights & legal aid

CHIRLA

Los Angeles, California · Q4 · 2026 · Delivered

The Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights has defended immigrant families in California for over 40 years. Our patients walk the same road toward a green card, so our fourth quarter went to the people fighting for them.

Why we chose them

Honoring those who have walked beside immigrant families for 40 years

When we set aside the fourth quarter of our giving, we wanted to support an organization that cares deeply for the families and communities we serve every day.

Many of the families we meet are on the path to a green card, making CHIRLA’s work especially meaningful to us. We’re grateful for the support they provide and honored to contribute, in a small way, to the important work they do.

About CHIRLA

Standing with immigrant families

To achieve a just society, fully inclusive of immigrants.

  • Legal Services

Helping immigrant families understand their rights and access legal help.

  • Organizing & Advocacy

Organizing and defending immigrants in the streets, the courts and the halls of power.

CHIRLA was founded in 1986 to advance the human and civil rights of immigrants and refugees. CHIRLA became a place for organizations and people who support human rights to work together for policies that advance justice and full inclusion for all immigrants.

CHIRLA’s first director was Father Luis Olivares, the pastor at Our Lady Queen of Angels Church. As a leading voice of the Sanctuary movement, Olivares used his church to protect refugees fleeing human rights abuses in Central America in the 1980s.

CHIRLA has since become one of the largest and most effective advocates for immigrant rights, organizing, educating and defending immigrants and refugees in the streets, in the courts, and in the halls of power.

CHIRLA constituency is made up of members, partners, and community who help us achieve our mission to have a society fully inclusive of immigrants.
